After an extensive trial process, Adelaide United’s Youth coaching staff are close to announcing the Reds’ Youth squad and train on players for 2013/14.
The local players vying for a place in the squad who are not taking part in the FFSA finals have been undergoing rigorous football conditioning sessions as well as training to adapt to the club-s playing style.
After testing fitness levels, results showed most of the players are yet at the level required. Fitness is a key to the style that is being implemented, which will aid the players not only in the National Youth League but also for their possible progression into the Hyundai A-League.
“We look to identify boys that have quickly adopted the rules which guide the club’s style of play,” Youth Coach Michael Valkanis said.
“Also through football condition sessions – yes we are conditioning but we are also assessing their decision making under fatigue.”
“Our training methodologies are following the senior team-s program.”
Once the squad has been announced, the coaching staff will have five weeks to work specifically on movements and tactics that replicate the senior style of play.
