Adelaide United can confirm that midfielder Zach Clough has departed the Club to take up an overseas opportunity.
Clough, 30, requested to leave the Club in order to pursue a new opportunity for himself and his family. The Club respected his decision and worked to facilitate the move, which was in the best interest of all parties.
Clough joined Adelaide United in 2021 and quickly became a fan favourite, making 93 appearances and scoring 22 goals across all competitions. His outstanding 2023/24 campaign was recognised with the prestigious Aurelio Vidmar Medal as the Club’s best and fairest player.
A product of the Bolton Wanderers Academy, the Manchester-born playmaker arrived in South Australia after stints with several UK clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic.
Speaking on his departure, Clough said:
“This was a really difficult decision, because I truly love this city, this Club, and the people within it. Adelaide feels like home. But this is an opportunity for my family and I that we couldn’t pass up,” he said.
I’m incredibly grateful to the fans for the memories and for making my time here so special. I really hope the door is always open for a return, because I’ll always be a Red,” Clough concluded.
Adelaide United would like to thank Zach for his contribution over the past four seasons and wishes him and his family all the very best in their next chapter.
