Throughout the month of January, Adelaide United went to great lengths to further our engagement with the local communities of South Australia.
Football Schools
- The AUFC Football schools continued to march on and are soon to come to a close, but all the kids participating have made some amazing improvements!
- Players such as Jodan Elsey, Dylan McGowan, Isaias, Craig Goodwin, Ben Warland, Eli Babalj, Marcelo Currusca, Bruce Djite, Sergio Cirio, Michael Marrone, Pablo Sanchez, Eugene Galekovic, and Bruce Kamau were all involved in the coaching and mentoring the young players.
- All Football Schools players and families were also invited to Coopers Stadium to exclusively watch the Adelaide United First Team train before their match with the Newcastle Jets. The players gave up their time at the end of the session to chat to the kids and signed a heap of autographs. It was a fantastic turn out in beautiful weather and the players obviously felt a bit of a lift from the crowd with a great win the following day.
Fasta Pasta
- Reynella Fasta Pasta was the next stop on the tour for our boys with Tarek Elrich, John Hall, and Mark Ochieng being involved.
- Fasta Pasta, in conjunction with Coca-Cola, ran a fantastic promotion where you could win a great AUFC Game Day Experience.
- The boys got to meet a lot of AUFC fans at Reynella and signed a stack of shirts and posters. The support didn’t stop with the diners, as even some of the staff got in on the act too and dressed their store in an unbelievable amount of AUFC memorabilia.
T20 Cricket
- One of our newest player sponsors, Rachel Lawrie from LJ Hooker, helped to organise a T20 cricket match, raising money for the McGrath Foundation.
- Michael Marrone, Jimmy Jeggo, and George Mells got along to the event, which included a scavenger hunt for the kids, with the AUFC players being the hunt’s last stop.
- It was a very hot evening, but all the kids loved seeing the boys getting involved with the festivities.
Australia Day
- The Reds were lucky enough to be invited to the City of Playford’s Australia Day Breakfast and were part of over 5,000 people that attended the free breakfast.
- Mark Ochieng and Ben Warland were a hit with the locals and were part of an ‘Amazing Race’ style event where the kids had to score a goal with the boys trying to stop them.
- Mark and Ben also assisted with drawing raffle winners with the major prize of a signed and framed Reds jersey up for grabs.
