With Adelaide United looking to make it three wins in a row, Head Coach, Guillermo Amor, and star midfielder, Marcelo Carrusca, are refusing to expect an easy match against the Jets, despite being without a win in six matches.
The Reds are currently going through a resurgence of form, having won their last two matches against Perth Glory and Sydney FC. Meanwhile, their Round 11 opponents and hosts, Newcastle Jets, are currently struggling to perform, winless in their last six fixtures.
Even though the two sides are seemingly going in varying directions, United have rightfully prepared for a fired up Newcastle outfit, who will be looking to put to bed their slump in form and their 4-0 loss at home to Melbourne City from last week in particular.
“Newcastle started the season very strong and did well in their first few games, but in their last six games they haven’t won,” Amor said.
“Last week against Melbourne City (where the Jets lost 4-0) it wasn’t a good game for them, but City are a good team with good players.
“But we also know Newcastle are a strong team and it will definitely be a difficult game for us tomorrow night.”
Speaking on how his side is looking to approach the match from a football perspective, Amor made clear that it will be in the usual Reds style.
“We will tackle this game like every game we go into,” Amor explained. “Our style is to have the ball and to try to play football.
“We want the ball and we want to create things by having the initiative to attack. I don’t ever imagine Adelaide playing defensively and waiting for the counterattack.
“In football, it is impossible to put (constant forward-pressure) on your opposition for 90 minutes, and for us it is impossible to sit back and defend for 90 minutes.
“Football is always different depending on the type of game that you’re playing in that moment.
“Our best friend must be the football and it must always be with us.”
Marcelo Carrusca reinforced his boss’s calls, saying: “It never matters who is playing or who is on the bench. What’s important is how the team is working and how they’re performing.
“We’re not going through the best time, but we have a lot more confidence now and I hope we continue this at Newcastle.
“Newcastle have a good team and they’ve not been winning at the moment, but we know it’s not going to be easy.
“We always try to be an attacking team, no matter our opponent or their situation and we will focus on ourselves.”
