Following an impressive 1-0 win over Croydon Kings last week, the Young Reds will head into their next match against West Adelaide with confidence.

A post-season berth is firmly set in their sights, and will be going out to win every game remaining in order to climb into the top six and play finals football. But their grip on hard work and disciplined football must endure.

Adelaide United Youth Team Head Coach, Mark Jones, was more than pleased with his team’s performance and their tactics being resonated. Remaining disciplined and performing for 90 minutes will be the key his Young Reds’ success.

“The team were positive heading into the game against Croydon Kings, and remained positive throughout the match when the game was at nil all,” Jones said.

“They hung in there, and concentrated for the full 90 minutes, which got us the deserved result in the end.

“As for training, we are just working on our system and tactics more, going with the runners is important and not letting them have clear chances on goal.

“Also, working harder, which the boys are doing well at the moment, and mark tightly, which is a factor in staying in a game.

“The goal is to grasp a top six position, we just have to remain disciplined in the remaining games, and it would be great to see, also giving anyone a run for their money.

In facing West Adelaide, Jones hopes to continue the winning ways and believes if his team can continue playing well, it is possible to get on the track of climbing up the ladder towards the top six.

“The best we can do is play for 90 minutes and score goals, whilst limiting West Adelaide any opportunities, as they cannot be underestimated,” Jones continued.

“Utilising our chances more, as we saw with last week’s game, could have seen us win by more, so the key will be to making the most of those chances.”
