The Club has been advised that Championship winning captain and long-time goalkeeping stalwart Eugene Galekovic has accepted an opportunity to join Melbourne City.

Adelaide United has been working with Eugene for a number of weeks to find a coaching role at the Club suitable for his skills with a view to obtaining the necessary coaching badges to become a fantastic A-League coach. During this period Eugene always made it clear his preference was to continue playing.

Eugene has been a wonderful servant of the Club amassing 284 appearances, winning the inaugural FFA Cup in 2014, the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Premiership/Championship double and numerous individual honours over a 10-year span.

We remained hopeful of retaining Eugene however we understand his decision and wish him all the best in the future.

“We thank Euge for his years of service and look forward to welcoming him back to Coopers Stadium next season,” said Adelaide United Head of Football Operations, Ante Kovacevic.
