Sydney thought they had emerged from the jaws of defeat after overturning a two-goal deficit thanks to Millie Farrow’s 93rd-minute equaliser at Leichhardt Oval, where Indiana Dos Santos had triggered the comeback to cancel out Emily Condon’s brace.

But Chelsie Dawber restored Adelaide’s lead just moments later as the Reds defeated the Sky Blues for the first time in their history in wild fashion.

It also guided Adelaide to a seventh consecutive game without defeat – a new club record.

Adelaide are third in the standings and three points off the pace, while Sydney are 11th and 10 points outside of the top six.

Sydney looked threatening during the opening stages on home soil as the Sky Blues and Adelaide traded chances.

But it was in-form Adelaide who drew first blood thanks to Condon, who was on hand to put the Reds ahead in the 23rd minute.

Condon was at the double 10 minutes into the second half. Sydney goalkeeper Briana Edwards could only parry Erin Healy’s shot straight into the path of the 26-year-old, who made it six goals for the season – the best return of her career.

Some brilliant work from Princess Ibini helped Sydney back into the contest as the Australia international found Dos Santos at the back post and the latter stepped up to reduce the deficit.

Sydney huffed and puffed during the closing stages in search of an equaliser, but some last-ditch defending and a goal-line clearance continued to deny the hosts.

That was until Englishwoman Farrow found the back of the net in the third minute of stoppage time, only for Dawber to put Adelaide back in front seconds later.
