As the Adelaide United Youth face their first match of the Foxtel National Youth League, Head Coach Huss Skenderovic says there is an abundance of confidence amongst the players, and the levels of excitement surrounding the group is high, as they travel interstate.

“The energy of the players is high, they are buzzing with excitement to start their National Youth League season and to travel to Melbourne for their first game,” Skenderovic said.

“We had training this morning, and the players are very confident in working and playing together, especially with adapting to the new style of play, in which is similar to the style of the Adelaide United Women.

“It is about playing forward and creating those chances on goal like we saw with the Women last weekend, and the Youth players are looking good in doing so also, against Melbourne City.”

Skenderovic strongly believes that his players must revel in playing football first and foremost, having a high spirit when walking out with their team on game day, and create their own identity on the field.

“I have developed the methodology from past experiences that it is very important that the players enjoy playing their football, and the impact of it is fantastic.

“It gives them a chance to have their own identity, and gives them some freedom, instead of being directed all the time.”

In facing their opposition, Melbourne City, Skenderovic knows that it will be a challenge and different for the players compared to the National Premier League as some of the best youth in Australia will be on display, but remains confident.

“We haven’t had the opportunity to see Melbourne City play, but with the confidence in our ability we are looking for a win and looking forward to the challenge.

“We want to make an impact, in what promises to be an exciting season for us.”
