Hall and Vidmar named in Subway Young Socceroos Squad

Steven Hall and Kane Vidmar have both been selected in the Subway Young Socceroos Squad for AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers.

Australian U-20 Men’s National Team Head Coach, Trevor Morgan, has today named the 23-players set to represent Australia at the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers in Kuwait City.

Originally scheduled to take place in Basra, Iraq during the September FIFA window, but moved by AFC due to security concerns, the Group H ties will now take place from 14 – 18 October at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium.

The Subway Young Socceroos will meet India, Iraq, and Kuwait for potentially two remaining spots in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™, which is scheduled to be staged from March 1 to 18 next year. The sides who finish top of their groups are assured of a place in Uzbekistan alongside the five best runners-up in the qualifiers.

The Subway Young Socceroos head into the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers having recently participated in the U-20 Costa Cálida Supercup in Spain where they played matches against Morocco, Chile and reigning under-19 European Champions – England.

Upon announcing the squad, Australian U-20 Head Coach Trevor Morgan said: “We have selected a very talented and versatile squad for these AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers knowing we will need to be at our best to qualify for the Asian Cup,” Morgan said.

“We have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Kuwait, India, and Iraq, and due to club commitments, we won’t assemble in Kuwait fully as a squad until Monday night.

“Fortunately, the majority of the players selected for these Qualifiers were together at the recent U-20 Costa Cálida Supercup in Spain, providing a great opportunity to train and play under tournament conditions, which has helped the players grow, and will hold us in good stead for Kuwait.

“We are very thankful for the support of clubs, both in Australia and abroad, for their ongoing support of Australia’s national youth team programs and in doing so, allowing us to field the best teams possible and enabling their players to showcase their talent on the international stage,” Trevor Morgan concluded.
