Healy: We learned a few things coming off that loss… we’re ready to bounce back

Adelaide United attacker Erin Healy says she’s excited to play in a special standalone women’s match at Coopers Stadium this Sunday and is confident the team can bounce back after a disappointing defeat to league leaders, Melbourne City.

Speaking to the media outside Coopers Stadium on Friday afternoon, Healy discussed this weekends important clash with Brisbane Roar, her future at Adelaide United and the potential of an International call up.

Erin Healy on this weekends standalone A-League Women’s fixture at Coopers Stadium:

It’s amazing playing at Coopers, the pitch is just unreal. And I feel like we always do really well out there. Having a standalone game is really special too. Hopefully we can get a good turnout.

Erin Healy on bouncing back from the defeat to Melbourne City:

I think we’re ready to bounce back. We learned a few things coming off of that loss and realising that we have to start at minute one, not at halftime, so I think we’re ready to do that out on the field this weekend and get a result.

I think we’ve done a great job throughout the season, starting out early, so it was definitely something we weren’t prepared for last game. So I think if we just go through our normal routine, we’ll do well.

Erin Healy on her fitness:

I’ve been dealing with some nagging injuries, but you can’t really go through a full season without those, so just trying to manage those the best way we can, and I’ll see if I can make it through the season.

Erin Healy on the squads fitness:

We have almost our full squad available. So I can imagine for Stents [Adrian Stenta], it’s probably a difficult decision to find the right position for everybody, but I think having Fi [Fiona Worts] and Izzy [Isabel Hodgson] back, I think that just drives all of us to keep fighting and keep working hard, because there’s opportunities for everybody.

Erin Healy on how she is enjoying her time in Adelaide:

It’s great. I really like it here. I feel like I fit in really well, with the team and the league. I think it’s kind of more my pace and I can do what I want out on the field and not feel limited, which I think has helped me become a better player, and hopefully I can do well for the rest of the season.

I’m starting to think about next year. It still feels a bit early for me, but I’m definitely considering Adelaide. How can I not? It’s great. It feels like home, too. So it’s definitely in the cards.

Erin Healy on a potential International call up:

I hope it’s an opportunity I get. I’ve never been in this position before, so it’s super exciting. I’m trying not to overthink it and get too nervous if that opportunity does come, but it would be really, really cool.

Part of my family is from Ireland… that’s kind of part of me and part of my family, and I almost get to play for my family, rather than just myself. So I think that would be really cool, because my family has done so much for me to get to this position.

Erin Healy on her family visiting her in Adelaide:

It was amazing, really, really great to have them here, and great time that we got to spend together. In the beginning of the season I got into a routine [it was] normal to be away from home, so then they come and you get comfortable with them again. And now I’m like “oh, I have to get really comfortable with being away again”. But I couldn’t be upset with them visiting.
