Strong in the air, reliable on the ball, and sturdy in the tackle. These are just some of the superlatives synonymous with Adelaide United defender Dylan McGowan.
The centre-half has been a revelation since joining from Scottish outfit Heart of Midlothian, commonly known as Hearts, before the start of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.
He made the right side of defence his own and also lifted the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup trophy in his maiden year. A successful 2015/16 campaign ensued, which saw McGowan play every minute of every game and established a formidable partnership with either Iacopo La Rocca or Jordan Elsey, in what was the competition’s stingiest rearguard, as the Club went on to claim an historic Premiers’ Plate and Championship double.
His ability of reading the game is second to none and from a positional sense has a knack of consistently being in the right place at the right time – making timely interventions to snuff out any imminent danger, determined to deny his opponent from scoring.
