Stefan Mauk says the longer than expected break between its next match will hopefully be the circuit breaker Adelaide United needs to rectify its recent struggles.
The Reds were due to play Perth Glory on Thursday, 23 December, although that clash has since been postponed due to a COVID-19 case in the Perth camp.
Adelaide’s will host Melbourne Victory in the FFA Cup Quarter Final on Wednesday, 29 December if the Victorians beat Gold Coast Knights next week.
Adelaide’s next Isuzu UTE A-League clash is not until New Year’s Day against Wellington Phoenix.
“Now we obviously have a little bit of time with the bye,” Mauk told Paramount+ following a 1-0 loss to Western United at AAMI Park on Friday night.
Connor Pain scored the only goal in the match as Adelaide slumped to a fifth league game without a win and second setback in a row.
Despite United’s uninspiring results, the Reds Captain remained optimistic they will bounce back.
“We need to regroup and make sure we stay positive,” he said.
“We’ve played some good football, but at the end of the day we need to start winning and not make silly mistakes.
“And we’re lucky that we maybe have 10 or eleven days to prepare for our next game.”
