United in Schools: A Season of Growth On and Off the Pitch

As Term 2 draws to a close, we’re reflecting on another successful edition of our United in Schools program, a five-week football and education program for Year 5 and 6 students.

Developed in collaboration with Flinders University and aligned with the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education, United in Schools is a holistic learning initiative that uses the structure of a football season to teach key life skills like teamwork, resilience, belonging and leadership, both in the classroom and on the pitch.

This term, students at four South Australian schools – Allenby Gardens Primary School, Salisbury Park Primary School, Keithcote Farm Primary School and Rose Park Primary School – participated in structured weekly sessions that combined matchday excitement with meaningful classroom activities, exploring concepts such as emotional regulation, positive relationships, and goal setting.

Adelaide United A-League Women’s and Men’s players actively participated in classroom sessions as part of the program, providing valuable insights and engaging with students throughout.

On the pitch, students took on roles like Head Coach and Team Manager, learning the value of preparation, strategy, and fair play.

In the classroom, they explored Adelaide United’s core values, Ambition, Integrity, Loyalty, Respect and Transparency – and applied them to group discussions and activities.

Throughout Term, in partnership with Foodland’s On The Ball Program, all students who participated received a Foodland Tote bag filled with healthy snacks.

We thank all participating schools, teachers, and students for their involvement in Term 2, as well as United in School partners, Foodland and the Department For Education, who played a significant role in supporting the program throughout the year.
