Last night Adelaide United FC celebrated their season launch accompanied by 400+ people with a dinner at the Hilton Adelaide.
The night saw each player of the squad introduced, while new signing Jimmy Jeggo and Tarek Elrich revealed the Reds’ new playing kit.
Hosted by Channel 7s Theo Doropoulos the guests were entertained by speeches, presentations and auctions. A highlight of course was the announcement by Club Chairman Greg Griffin of the signing of Barcelona legend Gulliermo Amor as the Club’s new Technical Director for the next year, a signing, which has been hailed as one of the greatest for the development of the Hyundai A-League.
Greg Griffin spoke of the team and club’s busy pre- season praising the work of the staff and playing group of the success of the Malaga game and the recent trip to the Northern Territory, hinting to the suggestion we might see more of the same next year.
A crowd pleaser was the reference to the 16 South Australian born players in the squad, many of whom are likely to play in the A-League this season. Greg Griffin congratulated Josep Gombau on being true to his promise to develop young local talent as well as bringing in the international talent.
Head Coach Josep Gombau thengot his chance to have the microphone in his hand, where he spoke about the coaching staff, how the team had been going so far and of course, the upcoming season.
Anthony Toop, was the guest auctioneer for the main bidding war over priceless gifts. Thanks for the many generous donations and willing bidders on making the auction a successful fundraiser for the club.
An exciting presentation put together by the Club’s strategic and creative agency cummins&partners, outlined the club’s desire for the season and beyond to truly united Adelaide as one.
Adelaide’s season will kick off on Sunday 12 October against Brisbane Roar in Brisbane, with their first home game the season block buster at Adelaide Oval against arch rivals Melbourne Victory, a game predicted of being the most viewed of the season.
