REPORT: Reds record 3-0 friendly win

Adelaide United has secured a relatively comfortable 3-0 friendly win against Adelaide Victory as its pre-season preparations continued at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre on Tuesday night.

The Reds take on Adelaide Olympic in the FFA Cup 2021 Round of 16 on Sunday and the contest served as an ideal fine-tuning session ahead of the competitive fixture.

Ben Halloran converted an early penalty before Ryan Kitto increased United’s buffer three minutes prior to half-time with a simple finish.

Kusini Yengi wrapped up the victory against the State League One outfit with a well-worked goal in the 90th minute.

Carl Veart made wholesale changes at the half-time interval – quite literally – with 10 new outfield players introduced.

There were a couple of instances Adelaide appeared vulnerable, even if they were largely successful in stifling Victory’s forays forward.

United displayed patient patterns of play as they dominated possession, but their dominance would not always manifest into clear-cut chances with Victory disciplined defensively.

Key moments

8’ | GOAL! Bernardo is impeded as he cuts onto his left and wins a penalty which Halloran confidently dispatched into the top left corner.

42’ | GOAL! Kitto controls a long ball over the defence by Isaías and drives forward to slot his attempt beyond the goalkeeper.

29’ | CHANCE: Osman Fofana test the gloves of James Delianov, who parries his strike.

78’ | CHANCE! Yaya Dukuly drills a low cross across the face of goal which skims of Yengi’s boot and he is unable to score from close range.

90’ | GOAL! Yengi holds off his opponent after receiving a pass from Ethan Alagich, turns quickly and rifles a shot too hot for the ‘keeper to handle.
