Adelaide United Director of Football, Bruce Djite, praised the loan signing of Craig Goodwin following his decision to return to the Club.

The 29-year-old put pen-to-paper with the Reds two weeks ago and having completed his quarantine last Friday, was officially unveiled to the media for the first time.

Djite stated his capture is a massive coup for the team due his pedigree.

“It’s phenomenal for us as a football Club,” Djite told reporters at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday.

“He’s a legend of the Club, he’s had success here, he’s won trophies here before.

“He’s an experienced head, I think he’ll help us on and off the field.

“… We all know he can score goals, his set-pieces are good and he can help the team in a number of ways.”

Djite admitted there was quite a process in order for the move to materialise mainly as a result of travel and border restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We approached Craig early and it wasn’t on, let it go,” he explained.

“Swings and roundabouts. Like he said things change very quickly in football. His circumstances changed and we were willing and able and prepared to get him over here.

“It’s not easy to get people in, it’s not easy for people to find flights, it’s difficult with the hotel quarantine, so we’re rapt to be able to bring Craig back.”

Djite also confirmed the Club is also looking to bolster its midfield depth before the registration period shuts, revealing they are meticulously working through a list of targets.

“That’s our expectation to bring another player in,” he continued.

“Whether it’s an attacking midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder, or a defensive midfielder, we’re talking to a few that play in different positions.

“But I’m very confident we’ll bring a midfielder in, in this window.”
