James Delianov had one professional appearance prior to joining Adelaide United before the A-League 2020/21 season.
But having claimed the number one spot ahead of the campaign’s commencement, Delianov has flourished with consistent playing time.
The 21-year-old leads the league in saves with 41 and has registered three clean sheets along the way.
And for the second month in a row he was voted the RAA Travel Members’ Player of the Month.
Delianov admitted he would prefer to be a little less busy, but was pleased with his form.
“As a goalkeeper I think the quieter our games are the better,” he said in a press conference at Coopers Stadium.
“You don’t really want to be making many saves, but this is how the games have been panning out for me.
“And I’m happy to do what I do and help the team really.”
On the weekend, he produced five stops against Western Sydney Wanderers including three magnificent saves – the final arriving in the final minute of stoppage time after tipping Mitch Duke’s strike onto the post and preserving the 3-2 win.
That victory was the Reds’ second on the bounce and Delianov is hoping they can string a third straight triumph Friday night at home against Newcastle Jets.
“It’s always good to gain a little bit of momentum,” he said.
“But I think the confidence is always there, we’re always putting out 100% and really trying to push forward and try and get three (wins) in a row.”
The Jets suffered its first loss in six matches in its last outing against Wellington Phoenix, but have improved since four consecutive defeats to begin the season.
“They’re a great side,” Delianov continued.
“We’ll prepare normally, we know what they’re about.
“We’ve been reviewing their games already early this week so really looking forward to Friday night.”
