Adelaide United is pleased to announce George Blackwood has returned to the Club on a two-year deal until the end of the A-League 2022/23 season.
Blackwood is back with the Reds after a season with English Football League Two side Oldham Athletic where he accumulated 15 appearances and scored three goals.
The 24-year-old spent three years in Adelaide following his move from Sydney FC in 2017, registering 72 games and scoring 16 goals in the process.
Capable of playing as a striker or in midfield, Blackwood won successive FFA Cups in 2018 and 2019 during his first stint in Adelaide.
Speaking on re-joining the team, Blackwood said: “I’m stoked to be back with United and can’t wait to get to South Australia.
“When I decided I wanted to return to the A-League, it was always Adelaide that I wanted to return to.
“I’m excited to get back working under Carl (Veart) because I didn’t have him for too long before I left for England and a lot of the boys have said good things about him and Ross (Aloisi).
“I feel like I learned a lot in England about being more direct and positive with my game, so I want to bring that back to Adelaide and help the team do well with goals and assists.”
Head Coach, Carl Veart, said: “We’re very happy to be bringing George back to the Club after he spent some time in England last year.
“George would have learnt a lot about himself and his football by playing in England’s League Two, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He’s still young, but George possesses a lot of experience and, importantly, is very versatile and can be relied upon to play in a number of different positions.
“Being a familiar face means he is also aware of the culture we have instilled in the Club over last few years and I have no doubts George will, again, be great for the dressing room.”
