Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of local South Australian and U-17 Joeys creative midfielder, Lachlan Brook, for the upcoming National Youth League (NYL).

15-year-old Brook began his football at Gawler Eagles in South Australia before a short spell with Para Hills and then Raiders saw him catch the attention of Football Federation South Australia, where he was added to their National Training Centre (NTC) programme.

Brook was also part of SA’s Skilleroos side that competed nationally in U-13 and U-14 divisions, despite being underage, before he was selected to join the Football Federation Australia’s Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

He has represented Australia at U-17 level with the Joeys, travelling to Cambodia earlier this year and also at the recent AFC U-16 Championship in India.

After joining the Reds and completing his first session with his new teammates, Brook said he was looking forward to the upcoming season and having the opportunity to test himself against some of Australia’s best players in the NYL.

“I’ve very excited to be involved with Adelaide United and in the NYL,” Brook said. “The NYL is the sort of conference that is very competitive and it will be a great chance for me to compare myself against some of the other players around Australia.

“I really enjoyed my time with the AIS, but I suffered a few injuries and illness prevented me from really settling in.

“But the experience helped me to grow and mature quite a bit as a person, I think much more than I would have if I didn’t get the opportunity to be part of that environment.

“Right now I’m looking forward to training hard and I want to keep pushing myself in this new season and hopefully learn a lot here with United.”

Adelaide United’s General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic, said Brook is a great addition to the Reds’ pool of young local footballers and will be given every opportunity to flourish within the Club for the upcoming NYL and NPL seasons.

“Lachlan is one of the brightest talents in Australian football at the moment and we’re very happy to have him join Adelaide United this season and commence his professional development within our environment,” Kovacevic said.

“The early signs all point to Lachlan being a footballer with a tremendous future ahead of him, and we can see him progressing within the ranks at Adelaide United in the not too distant future.

“But he is young and has a long way to go. It is now important for him to focus on training well to improve technically, implementing a positive work ethic and maturing tactically, mentally, and physically to build on his abilities and become a senior footballer.”
