Reds in safe hands as Galekovic signs three-year extension

Adelaide United is delighted to announce Eugene Galekovic will continue in his role as Goalkeeping Coach for a further three seasons after agreeing to a new deal.

The Reds legend has served in his current position since retiring in 2019 and has been instrumental in the development of the Club’s most promising shot-stoppers.

Galekovic, 41, spent 10 seasons as a player at Adelaide between 2007 and 2017, accumulating a Club-record 281 appearances.

A two-time Aurelio Vidmar Medal recipient, the former Captain won the inaugural Australia Cup in 2014 and then a Premiership and Championship double in 2016.

He also accrued eight Socceroos caps and was named A-League Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year an unprecedented four times.

Speaking on renewing his contract with Adelaide until 2025, Galekovic said: “Adelaide is home and the culture that has been cultivated under Carl (Veart)’s watch has been incredible.

“I’m delighted to continue working with an exciting group of goalkeepers that have so much potential, as well as a great team of coaches and the playing group overall.

“All our goalkeepers are great people and it really brings a great sense of reward seeing their success and progress come to fruition training them every day.

“I’m excited for the future of Adelaide United and very happy to continue being part of this great Club.”

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, said: “We’re very happy to be keeping Eugene and his services for another three years.

“First and foremost, Eugene is a fantastic person and is very highly regarded throughout the Club and Australian football.

“Secondly, I believe Eugene’s one of the finest Goalkeeping Coaches in the country and, having worked with him for the past three seasons, he is very knowledgeable about football, which is invaluable to us.

“So we consider ourselves very privileged to have someone of Eugene’s pedigree continuing to work with our talented crop of young goalkeepers moving forward.”
