Adelaide United is excited to announce the return of Dutch defender, Maruschka Waldus, on a one-year deal for the Liberty A-League 2022/23 season.
Having represented the Reds during the 2020/21 season, the 29-year-old defender is back following a spell with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
Waldus flourished during her first stint with Adelaide, scoring two goals in 11 appearances on her way to claiming the Dianne Alagich Medal for an exceptional season.
The experienced centre-back’s footballing journey has seen her ply her trade right across the globe. Alongside the Netherlands and Australia, she has also played in the United States, Sweden, Germany, Iceland, and Norway.
Speaking about her decision to return to Adelaide and compete in the Liberty A-League for a fourth time, Waldus said: “I really enjoyed my time with Adelaide United two years ago and I have always hoped I would be able to return one day.
“Adrian (Stenta) is a fantastic coach and the girls were amazing and helped create a strong culture.
“The team has also improved since my last time here and I’m confident we can continue to build on this.
“This is part of why I’m returning – I want to win silverware and make history with this Club.”
Adelaide United’s Liberty A-League Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, said: “Maruschka is a brilliant player and ultimate professional who brings a wealth of experience not only to our defence, but our entire squad.
“She excelled in her first stint with us and went on to win the Dianne Alagich Medal and also boasts excellent leadership characteristics.
“Maruschka perfectly suits our playing style as well, given she is comfortable in possession when bringing the ball out from the back, but equally strong in the tackle and a sound reader of the game.”
