Adelaide United has defeated Western United 4-2 at AAMI Park in Round 5 of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2022/23 season.
Goals from Hiroshi Ibusuki, Craig Goodwin, George Blackwood, and Ben Halloran saw the Reds claim back-to-back wins for the first time this domestic campaign.
Late in the second half, Joe Gauci also pulled-off an impressive penalty save to keep the score at 4-1, but a late consolation saw the hosts bundle one home just before full time.
Socceroos winger, Goodwin, pulled off an attacking masterclass to lead Adelaide United to the win and underline his World Cup credentials.
Goodwin’s Qatar selection appears a fait accompli but he has surely pressed his case for a starting berth after assisting Ibusuki for Adelaide’s opener in the ninth minute before scoring 13 minutes later.
Adelaide managed to take the sting out of the game with Ben Halloran’s 79th minute goal before Western’s Dylan Pierias scored 12 minutes later.
Adelaide pounced in the 9th minute when Goodwin looped in the corner and Ibusuki coolly headed home.
Goodwin doubled Adelaide’s lead when he received the ball, cut inside Josh Risdon then fired the ball into the roof of the net.
Then Lacroix failed to deal with George Blackwood’s shot and the ball bundled over the line to make it 3-0 before the half.
Adelaide added a fourth when Harry van der Saag burst forward and skidded a lovely ball across goal for Halloran to poke home.
Pierias nabbed a consolation goal from an Alessandro Diamanti corner.
