Eugene Galekovic has issued a reality check to the Reds, saying the team’s current seven-match undefeated streak doesn’t mean United’s season is over, with the Roar set to prove a massive test on Friday night.
The last defeat Adelaide United suffered was against Melbourne Victory in Round 8, with the Reds in tenacious form ever since registering their first win of the season against Perth Glory in Round 9.
But the Club’s Captain, Eugene Galekovic, said United’s season is only just beginning, with a lot of hard work still to be done and vast improvements still to be made if the Reds are to continue their climb of the Hyundai A-League ladder.
“We’re on a good run and we have to keep the momentum going, so all our focus is on our game tomorrow night,” Galekovic said. “The football that we’re playing is good, but we must keep improving.
“Teams take points off each other (regularly) in the A-League, so we just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing and keep getting points so we can cement our spot in the finals and climb the table even more.”
As it stands, United will go into the match without Sergio Cirio through injury, whilst John Hall is on international duty with the Olyroos. Meanwhile, midfielder, Jimmy Jeggo, and defender, Michael Marrone, are also ruled out, both serving one-match suspensions following an accumulation of yellow cards.
Galekovic, himself, is set to return from injury against the Roar, after missing the Reds’ last match with groin soreness, which the goalkeeper has put down to precautionary.
And although Galekovic’s inclusion is a substantial boost for United, they will certainly be faced with another difficult challenge when they battle it out at Suncorp Stadium.
“We played Western Sydney a few weeks ago when they were top of the table, and now we have Brisbane (who are currently top), so we’re going (to Suncorp) for a tough match,” he explained.
“We both play a very similar brand of football, so we’re going to try and match them and it’ll surely be an exciting game.
“We’re up for a massive challenge this week and there’s a lot of ins and outs with injuries and suspensions.
“It’s another challenge for us, but if we’re at our best, we know we can win the game.”
