Adelaide United Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, has said Emilia Murray’s winner in Round 1 of the Liberty A-League 2022/23 season is reward for years of hard work.
Murray got on the end of a delightful Chelsie Dawber cross to give the Reds a 1-0 win over Sydney FC at ServiceFM Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was just Murray’s 11th appearance at senior level for United, however the 18-year-old has been involved with Stenta’s squad for a few seasons, plying her trade and developing her skills amongst a quality contingent of players.
“Emilia is someone who’s been training with us for a long time and got a few opportunities last year.
“She’s been really positive in our team environment and she’s been someone that is pushing for more game time through her effort and consistent performances in training and during games when she’s on the park.
“It’s been a little bit challenging for her because we haven’t seen a lot of her because she’s spent some time with the Young Matildas camp and doing very well there.
“But she made the most of her opportunity today and I’m very happy for her.
“I also don’t think I’ve seen her score too many headers before and it’s probably the first header I’ve ever seen a score
“It was a great goal, especially knowing the ‘keeper was charging out at her too and a wonderful ball by Chelsie (Dawber) as well.”
