Guillermo Amor and Jimmy Jeggo say the Reds know exactly what they need to do to overcome Perth Glory at nib Stadium on Sunday evening.
Although Adelaide United is yet to register a win in the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season so far, the Reds are brimming with confidence ahead of their clash with the pointless Glory in Round 3.
Following United’s final training session at the Adelaide United Training Centre, the team made the more than three-hour journey to Western Australia, departing Adelaide at approximately 2.30pm.
With the Reds’ side somewhat depleted due to numerous injuries, United’s depth and resolve will once again be pushed to its limits, Head Coach, Guillermo Amor, admitting some players might be asked to play varying roles to their usual positions.
Amor, however, has refused to let this impact his side’s preparation ahead of the match, stating it is within the nature of football to succumb to injuries on occasion and adapting to them is part of the game too.
“Injuries happen to every team,” Amor explained.
“It is possible that some players might be playing in (slightly) different positions than normal, but they’re all versatile enough to play (elsewhere) if we need them to.
“This is football, though. It’s what the game is like. Sometimes you might have some problems; other times it might be me.
“The whole team is very important, but the players that are healthy at the time of the game are maybe a little more important because they’re the ones that are playing.
“The team must continue and must have belief in themselves and trust they can (overcome) these challenges. Overall we are happy with the players that we have ready for the game and we’re strong enough to get a good result.”
In the last nine meetings between the two sides in the Hyundai A-League, United is yet to be defeated by the Glory. The Reds have also failed to score just once in thirteen away games in the domestic competition when away from home.
These statistics clearly bode well for Adelaide and Jimmy Jeggo believes following a similar pattern in preparing for another match against the Perth side should ensure Untied leave WA with all three points.
“We can’t control what (Perth) do or how they’re feeling, so we’re more focussed on us,” Jeggo said.
“We’ve made sure we can be as prepared as we can be for this week. It’s really early on in the season, but also the A-League itself makes everything tough because every game is very competitive.
“But we’re not concerned with anything about our game yet, either. Our flair and expression in the front half will continue to come as we get to grips with a few things, so we’re not worried about it, but we are working on developing it.
“The game could potentially be one of our most physical, but sometimes you don’t know how it will pan out.
“It might be quite hot and then with Perth playing mid-week it might slow things down a bit, but we’re prepared (for anything).”
Adelaide United will face Perth Glory in Round 3 of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season on Sunday, 25 October, 2015, at nib Stadium. Kick off is at 6.30pm ACDT.
