Former Adelaide United winger and Young Socceroo, Awer Mabil, made his Europa League debut overnight as his Danish club went down to a star-studded Napoli.
FC Midtjylland, who is currently top in the Danish Superliga, went down 4-1 to Italian Serie A outfit, SSC Napoli, at home.
Napoli winger, Manolo Gabbiadini, bagged two goals in the first-half, following Jose Callejón’s opener. Argentine star forward, Gonzalo Higuain, then completed the scoring in the final minutes of the game.
Midtjylland’s Martin Pusic managed to get on the scoresheet for the homeside when he bundled home an off-target strike following a corner.
Mabil was introduced in the 73rd minute as a substitute for Mikkel Duelund, with Mabil managing to hit the crossbar in the 91st minute when his cross from the left flank swerved late and wrong-footed Pepe Reina in-between the sticks for Napoli.
The 20-year-old Aussie winger was later snapped with a souvenir – the shirt of goalscorer Callejón.
