Adelaide United has lost 3-0 to Melbourne City in Matchweek 10 of the Liberty A-League.
The Reds were well in the match throughout the opening 45 minutes, fashioning a handful of good opportunities through Fiona Worts and Chelsie Dawber in particular.
At the other end, United’s defence was resolute and hardly troubled significantly by City’s forwards.
However, the visitors commenced the second stanza with an exuberance initially unmatched by Adrian Stenta’s squad, the hosts conceding two minutes after the re-start.
Despite going down early in the second half, the Reds persisted and looked for an equaliser. But two late goals from City put the tie to bed.
Following the match, Stenta said: “We came in with a very set game plan and a clear structure of how we wanted to play.
“It took a little bit of time early on for us to bed that down, but I think the rest of the first half was really positive.
“And that’s why it’s so disappointing to concede so early after halftime, and then that kind of changed the game a little bit and opened up a few gaps because we were chasing the game.
“To concede a couple of goals right at the end of the match was really disappointing because I don’t think it was a three-nil game.”
