Adelaide United Captain, Isabel Hodgson, spoke to media in Melbourne on Monday morning approximately one month out from the A-Leagues Pride Cup double header with Melbourne Victory.
Following on from the success of last season’s Pride Games at Coopers Stadium, United, alongside Victory and Pride Cup Australia, announced a formalised ‘A-Leagues Pride Cup’ in August 2022.
Speaking from Edwin Flack Bridge outside AAMI Park, Hodgson discussed her excitement for the second iteration of the event and what it means for her to be involved in such an occasion.
Pride Cup 2.0:
“I’m really excited.
“I think it (Pride Games) was a great initiative last year to get it going and also for us in our home ground.
“In Adelaide it was really nice, but I’m really excited for it to expand and we’re really excited for it to come to Melbourne.”
One big, inclusive family:
“Adelaide is a family and we support each other.
“And between the men and the women’s teams, we both wear the rainbow armband.
“We’re really supportive of all the people in our team and we try and make it a very inclusive environment.
“The most important thing is that we’re all here to play football and that’s what it’s about.
“It’s about your love for football and… so long as we remember that and continue to have fun and play football, everyone should feel welcome.”
Pride progress:
“For myself, I’ve always felt really safe in football for women.
“I think for young girls, now it’s even safer.
“I’m really glad that I’m here in the forefront of (Pride initiatives like the Pride Cup).
“It’s kind of makes it a little bit extra special, but especially for the men.
“I really wish (this) had happened earlier, so people like Josh (Cavallo) felt a bit more safer.”
