Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, says he expects his side’s positive run of form to continue when facing Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last five games and have moved into third place on the Isuzu UTE A-League table.
It’s a positive change of momentum for Veart’s squad considering a turbulent run of fixtures following the league’s recommencement after breaking for the World Cup.
Speaking to media at Coopers Stadium on Saturday morning, Veart outlined his thoughts on the upcoming game, whilst providing some important updates to a few of his players.
Expectations for the encounter:
“It’s going to be a great game.
“It’s third versus fourth and Western Sydney have been one of the top two sides for most of the season.
“They’re going through a bit of a form slump at the moment… and we’re going through a good patch ourselves – unbeaten in the last five games.
“So we’re expecting it to be a difficult game, but we’re expecting to keep improving on what we’ve done the last few weeks.”
Goals, goals, goals:
“As you’ve said, we’ve scored quite a few goals in the last few weeks.
“And I’m expecting Hiro (Ibusuki) to get on the scoresheet tomorrow as well.
“He’s had a great week on the training track.
“He hasn’t scored for a number of weeks, but the way he’s training this week, I expect him to get a couple of goals tomorrow.”
Bernardo update:
“Bernardo is back now, but we lose him today.
“He goes away with the national team (Young Socceroos), which is unfortunate because he’s looked really well this week on track as well.
“I know that he’s going into a very important tournament for the national team, but it’s important that they also look after him, so he doesn’t break down again because it was a quite a serious injury, which, if they put too much load through that injury, it will break down.”
Barnett and Duzel condition:
“They’re most definitely going to be important acquisitions to the squad.
“They just need some match conditioning at the moment.
“They both haven’t played a lot of minutes this year, so they will play with our NPL side today and get some match minutes so they can come straight into the side when needed.”
The South Australian Produce Market and State Government have partnered with Adelaide United to hold a charity football match to raise funds for primary producers and small related agricultural businesses impacted by natural disasters including the Murray River flood.
The match will be a curtain raiser for Adelaide United’s match against Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday, 19 February 2023 at Coopers Stadium, kicking-off at 12:30pm (ACDT).
