Veart laments costly mistakes

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, says it was mistakes that cost his side all three points against Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Hiroshi Ibusuki’s brace, Alexandar Popović’s maiden United goal, and Ryan Kitto’s deflected effort all weren’t enough as the visitors levelled proceedings 4-4 late in the match.

Speaking to media post-game, Veart was understandably disappointed, despite the outcome leaving the Reds in third on the ladder.

Veart said:
“I think we’ve given two points away to concede that late.

“And when we look back at the game and we look at the four goals that we did concede, we won’t be happy with how we defended those instances.

“It was just a series of mistakes.

“We had the ball then we give it away, and then we try and press and get it back and over commit too many players, and then we get it back again and we don’t deal with it and give it back to them again, and then we just don’t defend it.

“A lot of the goals, we just stood off them and allowed them to shoot and get into the box, and when you do that with good players, they’re going to punish you.”
