Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, admits it is crucial that his side picks up as many points as possible in the run-in to this season’s Finals Series.
Speaking at the Adelaide Airport on Saturday afternoon ahead of his team’s trip to face Melbourne Victory, Veart previewed the match and highlighted its importance.
Sunday’s encounter:
“They’re a very difficult side to play against.
“(Tony Popovic) always sets his team up very strong defensively and I know they’ve had a few changes now from the January transfer market.
“They’ve brought some more quality plays into their sights, so it’s going to be a tough game for us.
’It’s important that we focus on what we do well.
“We’ve had great success in Melbourne this year, we’ve scored 10 goals already in Melbourne this year.
“So we go there with good memories of AAMI Park this year so far.”
Defensive changes:
“We’ve got a lot of defenders in the squad (for tomorrow).
“So it’s a little bit of a reshuffle for us at the back.
“But there’s an opportunity for one of those players that haven’t been playing to come in and do well.
“I’d rather have the stability, but I think the way that the season’s panned out, we have a look at what type of strikers we’re playing against and pick the best (centra back) pairing to deal with that.”
Climbing the ladder:
“It’s important that we pick up the points because there’s eight/nine games to go and we’ll play most of those teams that are battling for those (top) positions.
“So it’s important that we keep picking up those points.
“Everyone’s going to be playing each other and it’s important that we just look after ourselves and get the points that we need to make finals.”
A-Leagues Pride Cup:
“There’s no secret, since Josh came out a couple years ago, that it’s important that we support all communities.
“And this is a great way of showing that we are open to all communities and (encourage people to) come and support this great game that we’ve got.”
