Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, says the ‘discipline and focus’ shown by his Reds were crucial aspects to their winning performance over Wellington Phoenix on Friday night.
United were steadfast in their defensive structure throughout the Elimination Final clash against the Nix, ensuring a well-deserved clean sheet was retained.
Speaking to media post-match, Veart gave his thoughts of the match overall.
Veart said:
“Our discipline and focus stood out to me.
“The way that we kept at the way we wanted to play and we were on the front foot, we were aggressive.
“We didn’t give them too many opportunities to play through us, so I’m very pleased with that.
“It’s pleasing for the boys, they work extremely hard.
“We work every week on our defensive setup, and how we’re going to defend against our opposition and the boys got everything right tonight, which is a credit to them.
“Finals games are tough.
“They don’t come around that often and I said to the playing group that players can make a name for themselves in finals.
“(Goodwin) again tonight showed the quality that he has and how he’s, by far, been the best player in the league all season.”
