Emily Condon has kicked off the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season in style, scoring two goals in Adelaide United’s last two matches, including a crucial early goal in the Reds Round Three win over Canberra United at McKellar Park.
Speaking to United media after the match, Condon shared her excitement about returning to the pitch after overcoming injuries and contributing to the team’s strong performance, while praising the chemistry in the team.
The midfielder also highlighted the team’s solid defensive efforts, including key saves from goalkeeper Claudia Jenkins and looked ahead to next week’s Unite Round clash with Wellington Phoenix.
Condon on returning to the pitch after a disrupted season last year:
I’m just loving being back, obviously being on the field as a player is where you want to be. I’ve spent enough time dealing with injuries and things like that, so I’m just super happy to be back out on the field.
Condon on how Adelaide United have approached three consecutive away fixtures:
At the moment, how we’re playing our football, it doesn’t really matter whether we’re home or away right now, we’re just sticking to what we do best, and playing really good football and sticking to our own DNA and football style. I know we’ve got three away games, but we’re just doing our thing and we’re getting the results.
Condon on the chemistry within the group:
I think everyone is getting on well off the field and that’s showing on the field as well. We’re all on the same page, we all know what our roles are, whether you’re starting or if you’re coming on from the bench. Even the new girls to the team have slotted in really well and we’re all just playing our role.
Condon on the teams defensive improvements:
I think for the whole team it’s super important that we come out of games with clean sheets, especially for the defensive line. I think it just goes to show how well they’re doing this season so far, I know it’s early days right now, but I think that they’ve definitely stepped up to the plate and they’ve just been phenomenal
Condon on how the team will prepare for the Unite Round clash with Wellington Phoenix on Friday:
We’ve got a quick turnaround, with us leaving on Thursday again for the game in Sydney on Friday, so right now we’ve just got to prioritise our recovery and do everything we can to come into the training week feeling fresh and then get ready to travel again. Nothing out of the ordinary, it’s a quick turnaround, so we’ve just got to make sure we’re extra prepared for that.
Adelaide United will be looking for three consecutive away wins, when they face Wellington Phoenix at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney for Unite Round on Friday 22 November.
