Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Juan Muñiz Gallego on a three-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Juan Muñiz Gallego on a three-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 33-year-old brings a wealth of international pedigree to the Reds, having played across Spain, Greece, and Malaysia, while winning multiple trophies with Johor Darul Ta’zim F.C. (JDT) in recent seasons.
Standing at 175cm (5’9”), the left-footed playmaker is known for his vision, technical ability, and creativity in the final third.
On joining the Reds, Juan said:
“I’m very happy to be joining Adelaide United and can’t wait to wear the shirt at Coopers Stadium. It will be special to play for this club and share that experience with the fans.”
Isaías has spoken very highly of the Reds in my conversations with him, and I’m excited to see it all for myself,” Muñiz said.
Muñiz began his senior career with Sporting Gijón, where he became the youngest player to make his debut for the club at just 18 years old in 2010. He went on to make 54 appearances and score six goals across La Liga and Segunda División.
In 2011, Muñiz was selected for Spain’s U19 squad at the UEFA European Championship in Romania, helping his country lift the title alongside a golden generation of Spanish talent including Alvaro Morata, Dani Carvajal and Gerard Deulofeu.
His career later took him to Greece, where he made 65 appearances and scored nine goals for Atromitos between 2020 and 2022, before moving to Malaysia. With Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Muñiz became a key figure, netting 25 goals in 58 games, including 32 assists and securing a remarkable trophy haul including:
- Malaysian Super League titles in 2023 and 2025
- Malaysian FA Cup in 2023 and 2024
- Malaysian Cup in 2023 and 2024
- Piala Sumbangsih in 2023
Adelaide United Technical Director, Ernest Faber, said the Spaniard’s signing is a significant addition for the Reds:
“Juan is a fantastic signing for Adelaide United and will bring great creativity and leadership to our team. He is technically very strong, with the ability to both score and create goals through his finishing and assist attributes. His game intelligence will be a major asset for us, and we are excited to see the impact he will make in the A-League.”
Muñiz will travel to Adelaide in the coming days and link up with his new teammates in Adelaide as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.
