Adelaide United’s new Spanish midfielder Juan Muñiz has expressed his delight after finally arriving in Adelaide, describing the move as a “perfect fit” for both his football and family life.
Muñiz has expressed his delight at being able to join the Reds and begin pre-season preparations alongside his new teammates.
The 32-year-old brings extensive experience from Spain, Asia and Europe, and spoke warmly about the familiar faces who helped convince him to make the move Down Under.
“The first person I spoke with was Isaías – he told me amazing things about the club, the people, and the city,” Muñiz said. “Then I spoke with Javi López. He told me, ‘Juan, I’ve lived in Barcelona my whole life, but after four years in Adelaide, I want to stay here.’ That was special for me – when players don’t want to go back home, it means something.”

Muñiz revealed that Juan Mata, a fellow Spaniard now with Melbourne Victory, also spoke highly of the Reds and Coopers Stadium.
“Mata told me that last season Adelaide had the best grass, the best stadium, and the best atmosphere in the league,” Muñiz laughed. “So I think I made the better choice!”
The midfielder also spoke about his leadership role and the importance of helping Adelaide’s young talent develop.

“The philosophy here is about young players,” he said. “It’s good to have a mix of experience and youth – I want to share my experience, help them grow, and give my best for this club.”
Having arrived with his family, Muñiz said the transition has been smooth – and that his children already love Adelaide.
“It’s full of parks and green places – they love it here. And if they are happy, I’m happy.”
Muñiz is fighting to make his first appearance for Adelaide United in the coming weeks as preparations continue ahead of Round One at Coopers Stadium against Sydney FC on Friday 17th October. BUY TICKETS HERE.
