Adelaide United Head Coach Airton Andrioli says the Reds are determined to respond on the pitch when they travel west to face Perth Glory on Saturday night, with the focus firmly on translating performances into points.
Speaking ahead of Isuzu UTE A-League Round 9, Andrioli acknowledged recent frustrations but stressed belief remains strong within the group.
Andrioli on covering Bart Vriends’ injury
“Unfortunately Bart picked up an injury in the last game, which affected the way we had to adjust our game plan. We’ve worked on that this week and have a plan ready to go. Now we just have to deal with the situation and trust the players we have available.”
Andrioli on centre-back options
“We’re still finalising that decision. We’ve got some young players in the squad ready to step in, and it’s about deciding whether this is the right moment for one of them. We’ve still got 24 hours to make that call.”
Andrioli on squad depth and rotation
“We knew coming into the season that this position could be tested. Injuries are part of football, and every squad has areas that are stronger and weaker. We’re confident we have players who can step in and do the job.”
Andrioli on Jonny Yull and selection decisions
“It’s business as usual. Jonny felt his hamstring slightly at training this week – nothing major, but enough to be cautious. We’re rotating players and giving opportunities to others who are ready. Amlani is back in the squad for a reason.”
Andrioli on current form and mindset
“We’re all hurting. There’s no point pretending otherwise. When you’re winning, everything feels different, but now is the moment where we need to show how strong we are as a group. We need points on the board, and that means doing the talking on the pitch.”
Andrioli on what needs to improve
“There are many factors in football. Momentum can change very quickly. For us, it’s about eliminating moments of inconsistency, taking our chances when they come, and defending together as a team. We need to be more ruthless and more desperate for points.”
Andrioli on Perth Glory’s form
“Momentum changes everything. Perth won one game, then another, and belief grows. That’s football. We haven’t been outplayed by anyone this season – the margins have been very small – but we need to find a way to win matches. That’s what changes confidence.”
Andrioli on U23 Asian Cup squad call-ups
“We’ll likely lose a few players, but that’s part of football. When young players get rewarded with national team call-ups, that’s something we should celebrate. It also creates opportunities for others to step in, and we trust the depth of our squad.”
