Adelaide United can confirm that Club legend, Dylan Holmes will depart the Club to complete the FIFA Master – International Master (MA) in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.
Holmes, 29, leaves Adelaide United on her own terms to pursue a great educational opportunity, following an outstanding contribution to the Club across nine seasons, having made 115 appearances and scored nine goals in red.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Holmes developed locally with Cumberland United and Football SA before making her Adelaide United debut in 2014 against Sydney FC.
Across nine seasons, Holmes established herself as one of the Club’s most respected figures, recognised for her leadership, professionalism, and contribution both on and off the pitch.
“It’s been a big few months and a lot of thought has gone into this decision, but I won’t be returning to the Reds this season,” Holmes said.
“I have an incredible opportunity to complete my masters in Europe through the FIFA Master, and I feel the timing is right to take on a new adventure.
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to wear red, represent this incredible Club, and play for the supporters who have been there with us every step of the way.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us, particularly the Red Army, from the hottest days at Marden, to the windy days at ServiceFM Stadium, and the unforgettable moments at Coopers Stadium.
“I also want to thank all the coaches and players I’ve worked with throughout the years. The memories we’ve made will last a lifetime.
“I’ll be cheering alongside you as a fan, and I can’t wait to see both the men’s and women’s teams achieve great things in the years ahead,” Holmes concluded.
She scored her first Adelaide United goal in January 2021, netting a brace in a 2-1 win over Melbourne City, after she named Captain for that same Season.
In 2021, Holmes earned her sole Matildas appearance in a friendly against the Netherlands before joining Swedish champions BK Häcken, later returning to Adelaide United for her final stint with the Club.
Holmes was awarded the 2023 Dianne Alagich Medal, named joint Golden Boot winner in 2023/24, and appointed to the PFA Executive in October 2024 following years as a player delegate.
Her impact beyond football was also recognised at the Club’s Alagich Vidmar Awards Night, where she received the 2025/26 Remo Paris Club Person of the Year award for her work in the community and coordination of the United in Schools program.
Adelaide United Chief Executive Officer, Nathan Kosmina, paid tribute to Holmes’ contribution to the Club.
“Dylan leaves Adelaide United with the admiration of everyone at the Club,” Kosmina said.
“She has given so much over a long period of time, always with care, professionalism, and pride.
“Her contribution extends beyond what she has achieved on the pitch. This is a wonderful opportunity and one she has absolutely earned. She leaves with our full support, and we wish her every success.”
Adelaide United Football Director, Mitch van Gellekom, also thanked Holmes for her service.
“Dylan has been an outstanding servant of Adelaide United and a hugely respected figure within our women’s program,” van Gellekom said.
“From her leadership as Captain, to her performances on the pitch, and the way she has supported those around her, Dylan has made a lasting contribution.
“We are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved and equally proud to see her pursue this opportunity. She will always be part of the Adelaide United family.”
