Adelaide United FC has confirmed its commitment to provide support for women’s football and the Football Federation of South Australia (FFSA).
The Reds have agreed to re-direct a portion of their front of shirt sponsorship from major partner Veolia which has helped assist the FFSA and the Lady Reds in securing Notts County midfielder and English intentional, Katie Holtham. In turn, Veolia will also appear as a front of short sponsor of the Lady Reds for the Westfield W-League 2014/15 Season.
Club Chairman Greg Griffin was delighted to assist the Lady Reds and the FFSA to assemble a strong squad for the upcoming season.
“The club is happy to divert sponsorship funds from Veolia as we regard the ongoing development of the Lady Reds as being important to football in this state and to the relationship with the FFSA,” said Mr. Griffin.
“It is important for Adelaide United that girls in South Australia have a strong pathway into the elite women’s competition and that we work closely with the FFSA to ensure the success of these programs.”
The CEO of the FFSA, Michael Carter said that the FFSA and the Adelaide United relationship was important in continuing to grow women’s football.
“Having Adelaide United contribute to the Lady Reds is an excellent outcome and we thank the club for this contribution”, said Mr. Carter.
“A strong W-League team in South Australia is seen as pivotal for the continued growth of the Women’s game. The FFSA is committed to the ongoing development and improvement to the Westfield W-League team and funding provided by Adelaide United has enabled the recruitment of an international player to compliment our young developing squad.”
The Lady Reds kick off their Westfield W-League 2014/15 campaign away to Sydney FC this Sunday 14 September before their first home match of the season on Sunday 21 September against Canberra United at the Adelaide Shores Football Centre.
