Adelaide United FC spent the day embracing the community through school visits, training camps and traditional ‘outback’ experiences.
Following this morning’s training session, Dylan McGowan and James Jeggo visited Acacia School, Awer Mabil and Jordan Elsey visited Bradshaw School and Osama Malik and Nathan Konstandopoulos appeared at St Philip’s College.
The boys spoke in front of the students about their career and what it takes to be a professional footballer, which was followed by answering questions. Some groups were lucky enough to see demonstrations of skills and celebrations (thanks to Jordan Elsey).
The rest of the group, Josep Gombau, Eugene Galekovic, Nigel Boogaard, Pablo Sánchez, Marcelo Carrusca, Isaias, Sergio Cirio, Bruce Djite, Paul Izzo, Tarek Elrich, John Hall, Mark Ochieng, Dylan Smith, Ben Warland and Bruce Kamau visited the Earth Sanctuary World Nature Centre.
This Nature Centre, located in Alice Springs, promotes ancient culture with modern technological advances, exploring the arts, music, survival, spirituality and long-term sustainability. Through their distinctive and inspirational tour, the boys became immersed in indigenous culture, bush tucker and a football match in the red sand.
While this group was singing and dancing, the first group travelled to the Ross Park Street Soccer. The Street Soccer provides an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torren Strait Islander children to get together to learn football skills and have a kick around under the guidance of the Adelaide United Development Officer, Steve Jones.
The boys participated in small-sided and full-pitch games and then at the end they passed on old playing boots and balls to be distributed amongst the kids.
The Reds commitment to the Northern Territory is not just about playing football. It’s about engaging the community, promoting the area, assisting young people by promoting healthy lifestyles and decisions, developing better coaches and giving as many youngsters the opportunities to become involved in our great game.
Adelaide United take on Melbourne City in a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon at ANZAC Oval.
Tickets for the Hyundai A-League pre-season match are now on sale over the counter at Intersport Alice Springs, Hot Stuff for the Sporting Buff and Sportspower. Tickets will also be available at the gate.
Prices are as follows: Unreserved grandstand seating: Adult $15, concession and under 16 $10, children under 5 free and family ticket $40; General admission: Adult $10, concession and under 16 $5, children under 5 free and family ticket $25.
