Do not be surprised to see a strong contingent of mums in the crowd this Sunday for the Reds- match against Western Sydney.

Adelaide United FC through Club Patron Fay Gerard and in conjunction with Football Federation SA, have given junior footballers around the state the chance to say thanks to the role their mothers play by inviting them to watch the Reds in action at Hindmarsh.

To acknowledge the efforts of mothers in helping their kids to play football, Adelaide United is providing one complimentary general admission ticket for the match against Western Sydney Wanderers to the mother of every child aged 17 and under who was registered with Football Federation South Australia in 2012.

To be eligible, junior players simply had to register their interest in their local club before January 29, 2013. Over a thousand kids have taken up the offer.

Well known for her dedication and passion for charities, Mrs Gerard endorsed the idea to recognize the sacrifices parents make to allow their kids to play the game.

“Club Patron Fay Gerard has always been extremely family minded and asked how we could further acknowledge the role of families in the game,” CEO Glenn Elliott said.

“Mums are often the ones that are taking the kids to training and picking them up and washing their gear among other things.”

“The role that mothers play in their kid-s sport – we wanted to recognize that and allow junior players in the state to bring their mums to the game.”

“The response has been terrific and the ‘Thanks Mum- round will be one of the themed games we will look at having next season.”

“A Sunday afternoon timeslot is also family friendly so it-s a great chance for kids to bring their mums along.”

If you missed out this time around or even if you do not fit in the under 17 category, why not bring your mum along to Hindmarsh Stadium this Sunday and treat her to a day out to watch the Reds.

Gates open at 3.00pm with kick-off at 4.30pm.
