Young Adelaide United goalkeeper Paul Izzo is set to be out of action for up to four weeks with a knee injury.
Izzo strained the medial ligament in his left knee in an innocuous incident during the warm up prior to Adelaide United-s National Youth League game against the AIS on February 4.
“It wasn-t the best timing for something like this to happen,” Izzo said.
“At first I didn-t think it was going to be too bad, but then I got the results from the MRI scan and it turned out I have to miss out for awhile.”
The 17 year old is expected to face at least three weeks on the sideline with the injury setback, and while he is determined to give himself the best chance to be back early, he concedes it will be a matter of wait and see how quickly his knee heals.
“This is the first time I-d done something to my knee so that was a bit worrying at first because I-ve seen a few knee injuries and they haven-t been too good, but luckily for me mine is a good case,” Izzo said.
“I-d like to target to be back in three weeks, but if I have to wait four weeks then I guess it will have to be four weeks.”
Due to Izzo-s injury, coupled with Mark Birighitti currently being on international duty with the Qantas U-23s, Reds- Youth Team goalkeeper John Hall was called in as backup to Eugene Galekovic for last Sunday-s game against Gold Coast United and the Cumberland youngster is again likely to take a place on the bench for the games against Persipura Jayapura and Sydney FC.
