Emma Stanbury could not contain her excitement as Adelaide United recorded a resilient and equally dramatic 2-1 win over Canberra United on Sunday.
Nanako Sasaki and Emily Condon were on target for the Reds who bounced back following the disappointing 5-1 defeat to Melbourne Victory.
“I’m just so proud of this group,” she told Paramount+ in a post-match interview at Marden Sports Complex.
“To bounce back from a loss that we had last week 5-1 and to come out here and put a performance on like that.
“I’m just so proud of this bunch. We worked really hard in the week and this just proved we deserve this win so I’m very happy.”
Stanbury was extremely impressive in her maiden Reds start and home debut.
The former Canberra midfielder brought a lot of intensity to the team and recorded two tackles and three interceptions.
The 30-year-old had just been substituted after a tireless shift, but that did not stop her from being overcome with pure elation when Condon slotted the winning goal in stoppage time two minutes later.
“I don’t know if you saw me on the sidelines but I think was getting strapped with my cramps and I just jumped up and ice was flying everywhere,” she said.
“I was so excited and so happy for the team again.”
