Mens and Womens matches confirmed

The A-Leagues is pleased to announce that 13 matches have been confirmed as eight Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Liberty A-League Women clubs return to play from COVID breaks.

Having been heavily impacted by positive cases across the league since early December, a revised fixture has been confirmed ahead of round 11 of the men’s competition and round 8 of the women’s competition allowing for 13 matches to be held across both fixtures.

With Perth Glory’s men’s squad making their return to action in Brisbane, Sydney FC will host Glory On Saturday 22 January at 7:45pm at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, as part of a double header with their Liberty A-league Women facing Melbourne City FC at 5:05pm.

A total of three double headers will play out across the weekend and the Adelaide United Liberty A-league Women set to face the Wellington Phoenix at Coopers Stadium, the action packed football return will be highlighted by Melbourne Victory’s return to AAMI Park on Tuesday 25 January for the ‘Big Blue’ against Sydney FC.

While protocols continue to be in place and continue to be effective for club screening and wellbeing management, venues and broadcasts have also been impacted by the growing numbers of COVID cases across the country.

The 2021/22 season has seen nervous interruptions due to the ongoing pandemic and border challenges, but A-Leagues Commissioner of Football Greg O’Rourke said that the new matches were a positive step in the right direction.

“These fixtures are a significant achievement for us moving forward and getting the season back on track.” O’Rourke said.

“Over the past month, both the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Liberty A-League Women’s competitions have faced incredible challenges and uncertainty due to match postponements, but we are thrilled that so many of our are clubs are quickly getting back to match fitness and are ready to play.

“While there may be more hurdles over the coming weeks and months, we are grateful to our staff and clubs for continuing to see the vision we have for keeping the season on track

despite these challenging times.”

“We will continue to work with all clubs and relevant state governments to confirm a new schedule for all postponed matches as soon as possible.”
