An Apostolos Stamatelopoulos hat-trick has fired Adelaide United Youth to a 3-1 win over Perth Glory in Round 1 of the Foxtel Y-League 2017/18 season at Dorrien Gardens on Sunday morning.

Head Coach, Paul Pezos, in charge of his first Youth Team match, saw his side make the perfect start to the campaign thanks largely to the performance of Stamatelopoulos.

Perth started the brighter of the two teams and were unfortunate not to open the scoring, however when it mattered most in front of goal – the Reds took their chances.

At 2-0 down Perth continued to press and eventually halved the deficit, but United held their nerve to put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time.

Key Moments:

25’ | Goalkeeper Isaac Richards makes two crucial saves to deny Chok Dau and Michael Domfeh.

31’ | GOAL! Charlie Devereux’s low cross is steered home by Stamatelopoulos against the run of play.

52’ | GOAL! Stamatelopoulos grabs his second of the match with the second bite of the cherry. After beating his opponent, his first shot was saved, but the striker made no mistake at the second time of asking.

72’ | GOAL: The Glory are rewarded for their persistent as Yagoub Mustafa steals the ball of Richards and finish into a vacant net.

90+2’ | GOAL! With the hosts throwing men forward in search of an equaliser, Stamatelopoulos completed his hat-trick following a marauding run before expertly finishing beyond gloveman Jackson Lee.
