Isaías insists his Adelaide United teammates were extremely unlucky to concede a late contentious penalty on their way to a 2-1 loss to Newcastle Jets on Saturday.

The Spaniard felt a draw was a fair result once George Blackwood cancelled out Andrew Nabbout’s second-half opener at McDonald Jones Stadium.

But in the 87th minute a controversial penalty was awarded to the Jets after the referee determined the ball struck Ryan Strain’s arm after Dimitri Petratos’ effort deflected off Ersan Gülüm.

Petratos then stepped up to send gloveman Paul Izzo the wrong way from the spot and steal the three points two minutes later.

“It’s very hard for us,” Isaías told Fox Sports after receiving the NAB Man of the Match.

“I think we deserved a little bit more today we played a good game and we had our chances.

“We lost the game in the end so a little bit disappointed about it.”

Isaías gave an honest opinion when asked about the penalty decision.

VAR assessed the incident and the penalty was upheld, despite replays indicating the ball hit Strain’s chest, his arm was by his side and had little time to react as it was.

“I think from my point of view it wasn’t a penalty,” he admitted.

“But I should check the TV because I think it’s not a penalty from my point of view.”

Adelaide United host Central Coast Mariners in Round 12 of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season on Tuesday, 26 December at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.20pm ACDT.
