Mohamed Toure revealed the instruction he received from Head Coach Carl Veart was to “change the game” after scoring the decisive goal in Adelaide United’s 2-1 win over Perth Glory.
Three minutes following his 56th minute introduction and the 17-year-old answered his manager’s call with a scintillating run, before a slice of fortune saw his attempt sneak in at the near post.
The strike doubled United’s lead and it ultimately arrived at the ideal time as it appeared to dash Perth’s ability to mount a legitimate second-half comeback.
It was the forward’s second goal of the season and Toure said he really enjoyed being out on the park.
“I was loving it out there,” he told Paramount+ after the match.
“My instruction coming on the pitch was to come on and try and change the game.
“I think I tried my best to help the team get up 2-0 which won us the game.”
His impact proved pivotal as the Reds conceded a 90th minute penalty which was converted by Bruno Fornaroli.
Toure admitted his team were a little apprehensive in the final stages of the match but found a way to hold on and secure a second successive victory.
“Everyone was nervous, you could feel the nerves around the team,” he said.
“It’s always bad to concede late especially because we’re always the team to score in the last, dying minutes.
“So happening to us would be really bad, we defended well.”
