Two goals from Carlo Armiento has helped Adelaide United Youth pull off a massive scalp following a 3-0 win over high-flying Campbelltown City at Smith Partners Stadium on Easter Monday.
Charlie Devereux opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before substitute Armiento bagged a late brace to claim a huge three points for Paul Pezos’ men.
Lachlan Brook was the first player to come the closest to breaking the deadlock inside three minutes. He danced his way through the defence before clipping the crossbar from 22 yards out.
Aladin Irabona and Pacifique Niyongabire were lively throughout the encounter and played a role in orchestrating both goals in the second-half.
However, before the aforementioned pair ran riot after the break, Devereux drew first blood.
The midfielder received the ball on the edge of the area from a neat corner routine and rifled his effort into the top corner.
In the second stanza, Adelaide again asserted themselves on the tie and nearly doubled their lead had it not been for the post denying Irabona’s curling shot.
Pezos turned to his bench in the 65th minute, summoning Armiento – which proved an inspired substitution.
Twelve minutes later the Young Reds made it 2-0 when Irabona squared a pass to Armiento, whose strike smashed into the roof of the net.
Adelaide sealed the victory in emphatic fashion on 88 minutes as Armiento completed his brace to move the Club one point off the top six.
Niyongabire nutmegged his opponent, leaving him in his tracks and passed to Irabona, who then picked out Armiento and the substitute dispatched a thumping left-footed drive into the top corner.
