Adelaide United will be determined to make a positive start to the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season when they face Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Sunday.

The Reds finished the previous campaign at the foot of the table, but their performances did not reflect that position in the standings.

And that is one of Head Coach, Ivan Karlović’s, aims heading into the new season – to turn strong performances into victories.

The additions of several acquisitions have also bolstered the squad, giving a real sense of optimism and anticipation as well.

Sunday’s game is no different with Karlović stating the team is targeting maximum points against Melbourne.

He acknowledged it will be a tough clash, with Victory also strengthening their playing roster.

“They’re obviously a good side and looking to improve on last season and have recruited well in the offseason,” Karlović said.

“So obviously a game away from home we still expect to go over there and get the three points and that’s the expectation and that’s the goal for us.”

Karlović revealed the new additions from interstate and overseas have settled in seamlessly.

Icelandic pair, Fanndís Fridriksdóttir and Gunnhildur Jónsdóttir, as well as, United States duo, Amber Brooks and Veronica Latsko have all been included in the Round 1 extended squad and boast impressive pedigrees.

Meanwhile, United has a natural and prolific goal-scorer leading the line, in the form of Matildas star, Michelle Heyman, who arrived from Canberra United.

“The girls have come in and settled in really well and have added a lot of quality and experience to the side,” he said.

“And lifted the quality at training so we’re looking forward to having them as part of the team this year.”

With the Reds having never qualified for the finals series, the boss said the objective this year is to finish in the top four.

“Finals football that’s the aim,” he continued.

“And to improve on last year and learn from our mistakes and try and become better in games.”
