Adelaide United Women Head Coach, Ivan Karlović, saw more promising signs from his side following their 2-0 win over Canberra United at Coopers Stadium on Thursday night.

Veronica Latsko scored for the second consecutive week thanks to a close-range finish before an own goal ensured the three points would remain in Adelaide.

The result saw the Reds temporarily move to the top of the table on equal points with Melbourne Victory.

Karlović said he was impressed with the solid display from his side, but insisted they still have facets of their game they can improve.

“It was positive in a lot of aspects,” Karlović said in the post-match press conference.

“Areas that we wanted to improve on that we spoke about over the last few weeks.

“We’ve continued to improve and there’s still room for improvement, but we’re certainly heading in the right direction.”

Karlović praised Michelle Heyman for her strong performance when asked if it was her best match as a Red to date.

The Matilda international assisted Latsko for the opening goal courtesy of her sensational cross to the back post.

“She’s improving every week, she came to us a little bit underdone,” he said.

“Lacked some conditioning and match practice but as each week goes by, she’s starting to get better, she’s starting to feel better within her body and starting to find that touch and she’s really starting to get her groove.

“And we’re happy she’s with us and we’re a better side for it.”

Adelaide have also not conceded in their three games to start the season.

The Reds boss attributed their resoluteness to hard work and some luck.

“We’ve had a little bit of fortune in a couple of the games,” he explained.

“Whereas last year that sort of evaded us at times and I think we conceded a number of own goals last year or deflections.

“It’s just a collective, we’ve been working hard on our structural stuff and the way we help each other and back each other up.

“I think the girls have responded and they’re listening to instructions and the most important thing is that they’re working hard.”
