Adelaide United Youth suffered their first loss of the Foxtel Y-League 2018/19 season after falling 2-1 to Melbourne Victory Youth at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.
Kristin Konstandopoulos scored a second-half penalty but the Reds could not find an equaliser after conceding two goals in the opening 25 minutes.
Entering the contest Adelaide were top of the Group A standings without defeat with Victory bottom and winless. They also edged Melbourne 3-2 in Round 1 of the competition.
However, Head Coach, Paul Pezos was forced reshuffle his line-up as key players Carlo Armiento and Louis D’Arrigo were unavailable due to being included in Marco Kurz’s matchday squad for the Original Rivalry. Meanwhile, Lachlan Brook was also absent through injury.
Yazid Said opened the scoring on 12 minutes in opportunistic fashion after Liston Diaz’s shot fell to him.
In the 25th minute, Said’s cross was then inadvertently turned in by defender Jared Clark to double Victory’s lead.
Adelaide dominated the second stanza and halved the deficit when Konstandopoulos slotted a 57th minute spot-kick.
However, Adelaide were unable to net a second and endured their maiden loss in four matches to slip to second due to an inferior goal difference to Brisbane Roar.
